Tech in the Classroom

iTunes for CD Management

We probably all have our standard stack of CDs in our locations right next to our gigantic CD players that can also be used as boat anchors. I found I was always spending a lot of time looking for the right CD for the listening tasks and also searching for the correct track number.  Each Interchange level set has 4 CDs and it sometimes took precious time to find the right track.  The Market Leader CD sets are also a bit confusing when finding the track number from the textbook.

As always technology saves the day!  Or sometimes technology saves the day…in this case it saves the day. I use iTunes but you can do the same thing with Windoz Media Player or Winamp.  I ripped all the CDs in my office into iTunes and labeled them with an image of the CD cover. (Ripping the CDs is perfectly legal as long as you have a physical copy of the original CD) It is so much faster in finding the CD that I need and also much easier to find the correct track number.  I also have the Rhythm Training CDs so I can easily do a RT class.  Give it a try and see how much easier it is to organize your pile of CDs!

Apple iPad 2 Keynote

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGxEQhdi1AQ

This month’s FIATube is a video that I often use. Whenever a lessons leads to making speeches or presentations, I always turn to the master Steve Jobs.
Steve Jobs is a master of keynotes, commencement speeches, and product announcements. He is perhaps the greatest public speaker of all the corporate leaders we have seen.
Being an iPad2 fanboy,  I choose to show the iPad2 Keynote. I usually skip the demos, videos, etc… These are some key points I take away from his keynotes:

Passion is contagious, show it
Don't be afraid to be dramatic
Tell the story
More demos less slides
A picture is more memorable than a text filled slide
People like groups of 3, its easy to remember and seems simpler
Practice, practice, practice
Sell the experience not the product
Make it easy to follow
Use analogies to explain data
Leave them hungry to know more

The students seem to enjoy his presentations and usually leave class wanting an iPad2.
